Have you got a cloud in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
iTunes in the Cloud
With iCloud, the music you purchase in iTunes appears automatically on all your devices. You can also download past iTunes purchases. (Requires iTunes 10.3.1 or later. Downloading previous movie purchases requires iTunes 10.6 or later. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.)
iTunes Match
Lets you store your entire collection, including music you’ve imported from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes. $24.99 a year. (Requires iTunes 10.5.1 or later. Limit 25,000 songs. iTunes purchases do not count against limit. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.)
Amazon Cloud Player
All Amazon purchases and the first 250 imported songs are free, or you can import up to 250,000 songs for $24.99 per year. (Amazon MP3 Downloader requires OS X 10.4 running on Intel-based hardware [and AIR version 3.3.x]. Amazon Music Importer requires OS X 10.6 running on Intel-based hardware [and AIR version 3.3.x].)
Amazon AutoRip
MP3 versions of eligible CDs purchased since the launch of Amazon's music store in 1998 are delivered to Cloud Player for free.
Google Play
Sign in to Music Manager, choose where you keep your music and it starts uploading automatically. And when you add new music to your computer, Music Manager can automatically add it to your library too. You can upload 20,000 of your songs for free. Music Manager even adds your iTunes playlists and ratings so you can start listening to your favorites right away. Once you’ve uploaded your music, it's instantly available on the web and your Android phone or tablet. (Requires OS X 10.5 and above.)

NCC-Mac January 2013 Meeting Announcement

A Belated Happy New Year to all. The next meeting of the North Curry County Macintosh Users is Thursday, January 31, 4:30 PM at the Langlois Library.

This month's topic is "Have you got a cloud in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" If your music library is eating up way too much disk space, there are a few ways to offload some or all of it to distant servers, but still be able to play what you want, when you want, where you want. I've been playing with three such services, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
